Betty Joanne Valdez, 77, of Bridgeport, passed away on Wednesday, October 13, 2010. She was born in Bridgeport on June 16, 1933, a daughter of the late Melvin Guy and Hilda Madge Morrison Nicholson. On June 12, 1954, she married Angel Valdez, who preceded her in death on April 4, 2009. She is survived by four sons, Angel Valdez, Jr. and his wife Tina of Kannapolis, NC; Micheal Valdez and his wife Sandy of Austin, TX; Richard Valdez of Bridgeport; and David Valdez and his wife, Deborah of Bridgeport; two daughters, Anita Valdez and her husband Allen of Nutter Fort; and Elizabeth Bennett and her husband Leroy of Baytown, TX; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Melvin Guy Nicholson, Jr. and his wife Patty, Bridgeport; three sisters, Shirley Jean Miller and her husband William Dale, Kent, OH; Mary Ellen Fiber, Lumberport; and Nancy Louise Davis, Maryville, TN; and several nieces and nephews. Betty was a graduate of Bridgeport High School and had previously worked at Rolland Glass and BF Specialty. She enjoyed gardening, bowling and walking. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Ave., Bridgeport, from 4-8 pm on Sunday. The Vigil Service will be held at 5:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, October 18, 2010, at All Saints Catholic Church with Father Harry Cramer as Celebrant.
