Obituary for Roddy Vukovich

RODDY Vukovich, 97, of Brownton, WV (Barbour County), died on Friday, June 24, 2011, at his home. The son of the late Lazo and Tonka Chos Vukovich, he was born February 28, 1914, in Yukon, PA He is survived by two daughters: Carol Spear and her husband, Carl, of Bruceton Mills, WV, and Sheila Vukovich of Morgantown, WV; a special son, Robert Vukovich of Brownton, who has been his caregiver for the last several years; a sister, Mary Shuppe, of Dilliner, PA; two granddaughters, Kira and Sarah Moore of Morgantown; six step-grandchildren; ten step-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Daisy Marra Vukovich, January 28, 1991; four brothers: Milton Milinovich, and Michael, George and Nicholas Vukovich; and two sisters, Catherine Paris and Dorothy Mediate.
Roddy was a member of All Saints Catholic Church in Bridgeport, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and the Postmaster of Brownton from 1954 until 1992. He was a lifetime member and past Commander of the VFW Post 3081 in Grafton, a member of the National Association of Postmasters and the National League of Postmasters, a charter member and past president of the Flemington Lions Club, and a member of Philippi Lodge I.O.O.F. #59. Roddy attended the Coyne Electrical School in Chicago and Business College in Clarksburg, WV, and was a graduate of a Dale Carnegie Training Program. For 25 years, he owned Roddy’s Grocery in Brownton.
Condolences may be extended to the family at burnsidefh@burnsidefuneralhome.com Family and friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S, Virginia Avenue Bridgeport, on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 from 3-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, June 29, 2011, at 11:00 a.m., at the All Saints Catholic Church in Bridgeport, with Rev. Father Harry D. Cramer as celebrant.
Burial will follow in the Bridgeport Cemetery with graveside military honors provided by the Lewis County Honor Guard.
