Obituary for Raul Yeste

Raul Yeste, 71, of Bridgeport, passed away Sunday morning, May 22, 2011, at his residence. He was born in Havana, Cuba, on August 5, 1939, a son of the late Jose Maria and Augustina Frometa Yeste. He was preceded in death by his first wife and close friend, Dora Ferdman Yeste. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Carol Kelley Yeste, whom he married on May 13, 1985. Also surviving are 5 daughters, Myra Yeste, Cuba; Ivonne Mitchell and her husband Tom, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Kelly Mellisa Kearney, Mussel Shoals, AL; Vanessa Sandy, and Natasha Yeste-Delaney and her husband Harry II, both of Bridgeport. Eight grandchildren, Lyda, Lyza, and Justin Jr. Sandy; Hannah Grace Delaney; Erica Nicole Mitchell; Mason Alexander Mitchell; and two grandchildren who live in Cuba; a sister, Elsa Yeste and a brother, Pepito Yeste, complete his family. In addition to his first wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Rosa; and four brothers, Sergio, Sigifredo, Hugo, and Jaime. Raul had served in the Cuban military, was trained by the US Military, and fought in the Bay of Pigs and he was a prisoner of war in Cuba until his release on Christmas Eve in 1962. He was a retired restaurant owner and chef. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed cooking.
