Obituary for Ruth Utter

Virginia “Ruth” Utter, 92, of Bridgeport, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, July 27th, 2014 at United Hospital Center. She was born August 16, 1921 in Alma, WV a daughter of the late Charles Pratt, Sr. and Eva Mae Wise Pratt.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Garth Utter, who passed away on September 20, 2004.
She is survived by one daughter, Judy Pryor and her husband Gene of Bridgeport; one son, Dave Bennett of Orlando, FL; three stepsons, Ray Utter and his wife Pam of Fresno, CA, Gary Utter and his wife Judy of Broomfield, CO, and Jim Utter and his wife Kay of Bristol; four grandchildren, Jennifer Sprouse and her husband Brad of Bridgeport, Renee Bennett, Eric Bennett and Tara Leskovac and her husband Mike, all of Westerville, OH; and eight step grandchildren; seven great grandchildren, Derek, Tyler and Ryan Sprouse, Kyler, Bryan and Chayse Bennett and Cohen Leskovac; two sisters, Stella Hickman of St. Mary’s, and Wilma Lou Devine and her husband Bill of Orlando, FL and one brother Charles Pratt and his wife Betty of Bridgeport; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by one son, E. Paul Gatrell.
Ruth was a graduate of Bristol High School and was retired from Kroger with 25 years of service. She was a faithful member of Bridgeport Baptist Church. She loved to quilt and she had received many awards for her quilting ability. She devoted her entire life for her family. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who will be sadly missed not only by her family but to all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bridgeport Baptist Church, 556 Worthington Drive, Bridgeport WV 26330, or to the Alzheimer’s Association of WV, 1299 Pineview Drive, Morgantown, WV 26505.
Family and friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport on Thursday, July 31, 2014 from 5-8 pm. Funeral Services will be conducted on Friday, August 1, 2014 at 11:00 am with Pastor Tom Edgell and Tyler Sprouse presiding. Interment will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Quiet Dell.
