Obituary for Dorothy J. Talkington (Hawkins)

Dorothy J. Talkington, 63, Clarksburg, passed away unexpectedly at her residence Saturday evening, October 25, 2014. She was born in Mt. Clare on October 2, 1951, the ninth of eleven children of the late Granville William Hawkins and Mary Bell Sears Hawkins.
She is survived by her husband, Herbert M. “Pat” Talkington, whom she married October 16, 1978.
Also surviving are two sons, Robert “Bobby” Talkington and his wife Chastity, and Daniel Talkington, all of Clarksburg; three step-daughters, Debbie Davisson and her husband Hal, Salem; Rebecca Shingleton and her husband James, Morgantown; and Marilyn Cottrill and her husband John, Clarksburg; four grandsons, Brian Prieto, Patrick Shingleton, Robert Talkington II, and Gabriel Talkington; two granddaughters, Felicity Zippilli and Renea Burns; and two great-grandchildren. Four sisters, Daisy Wilcox, Rose Wilcox and her husband Melvin, and Lilly Hawkins, all of Stonewood, and Sue Washburn and her husband Bill, Jane Lew; two brothers, Cleveland Hawkins and his wife Lorraine, Laurel Valley, and Charles “Buck” Hawkins and his wife Connie, and several nieces and nephews complete her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Lester and James Hawkins, and two sisters, Ellen Hawkins Penland and Evelyn Hawkins Scarff.
Dorothy was a graduate of South Harrison High School and attended the WV Business College. She was a hostess and waitress for over thirty years, having worked at the Greenbrier Restaurant and Jim Reid’s Restaurant. She attended Bible Baptist Temple.
She loved life. She loved being with family and she always had a smile and could make you smile. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday evening, where services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 30, 2014, with Pastor Bob Gowen presiding. Interment will follow in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
