Obituary for
Kathleen B. Cather
Mrs. Kathleen B. Cather, of Berry Run Road, Flemington, passed away on Monday, November 24, 2014. She was born on September 14, 1920, in Berryburg, WV, a daughter of the late Elbern and Callie Bartlett Baughman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J H Cather, whom she was married to for 48 years.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary K. Singleton and her husband Larry of Flemington; grandchildren, David Singleton and his wife Tabitha Coffindaffer of Morgantown; Jennifer Lowry and her husband Loren of Flemington and Joshua Singleton and his wife April of Grafton; great-grandchildren, Emelia and Clark Singleton and Tyson Lowry; her sister, Harriet Anderson and her husband Derrick of Santa Ana, CA; sisters-in-law Rosita Green Baughman of Roanoke, VA, Janet Weaver Baughman of Philippi, Bertie Cather Voso of Marietta, OH and brother-in-law Don Westfall of Winchester, VA; and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her very special friends, Mrs. Jean Stout of Flemington and Mr. Burl Jones of Bridgeport.
In addition to her husband and parents she was also preceded in death by her sisters, Martha Van Horn, Jean Edge and Sarah Westfall; brothers, Isaac Baughman and Roy Baughman and great-grandson, Lance Burke Singleton.
Kathleen graduated from Philippi High School and went on to get her teaching degree from AB College. She taught at Philippi grade school before moving to Taylor County, where she taught in the school system for 30 years, retiring in 1979. She was a member of the Taylor County Retired Teachers Association, a charter member of the Flemington Woman’s Club, a member of the Philippi chapter of Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Flemington Baptist Church. Kate never knew a stranger and made friends everywhere she went. She and Ham enjoyed traveling with their friends after her retirement and attending antique car shows with the Antique Car Club of which they belonged.
The family wishes to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful caregivers at Serenity Hope who were like family to her and to us. We would also like to thank the nurses of Amedysis Hospice for their commitment to her comfort in her final days.

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport from 2 – 8 p.m. on Friday and from 10 – 11 a.m. on Saturday. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 29, 2014, with Reverend Bert Coffman presiding. Interment will follow in Simpson Cemetery.
