Obituary for Robert M. Sayre

Robert M. Sayre, 92, of Bridgeport, passed away on Monday, January 12, 2015, at the Arbors. He was born August 22, 1922, in Vienna, a son of the late Robert Thomas Sayre and Hetty L. Skaggs Sayre.
He was formerly married to Betty L. Moore Sayre. In 1974, he married Marjorie A. Swiger Sayre, who preceded him in death on February 7, 2014.
He is survived by his daughter Peggy L. Sayre Siders of Lagro, IN; his son, Robert “Bob” E. Sayre of Parkersburg; three grandchildren, Katy Siders Gray, Chelsea Siders Wilkinson, and Nathanial Siders, all of Lagro, IN; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews of Parkersburg and Charleston..
In his immediate family, he was preceded in death by two brothers Olin T. Sayre and Donald Sayre; and two sisters, Lucille Ritchie and Irmalie Sayre Stephens.
He was a member of the American Society of Professional Engineers, American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the American Society of Industrial Engineers.
He was educated at Parkersburg High School Class of 1942, Wentworth Institute of Boston ,MA, Marshall University and Marietta College of ICS Mechanical and Electrical Correspondence Schools of Scranton, PA.
He served in the US Navy on an aircraft carrier and destroyer in the North Atlantic and Mediterranean during WWII. He was a member of the Bel Meadow Country Club and Chancel Choir and former administrative Board Member of the First United Methodist Church of Clarksburg, and he was currently a member of Bridgeport United Methodist Church. He played baritone horn in the Navy, Cambridge Ohio City Band, Wabash City Band, Indiana, Parkersburg and Clarksburg City bands.
He was employed at American Viscose, Parkersburg as a design draftsman, Vanadium Corp, as a design engineer in Cambridge, OH and Graham Station WV. He was employed as Plant Engineer at Tennessee Products of Nashville, TN, and Houston TX. He was chief engineer with Wabash Smelting of Wabash, IN and later as sales engineer with Centurial Products of Clarksburg. He later started his own company, RMS Sales Co. in 1985, where he designed and sold precast and pre-stressed building products, concrete products for drainage and band retention projects for municipal and private contractors.

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport on Saturday, January 17, 2015, from 2-4 p.m., where services will be held at 4 p.m. with Reverend Dr. Ken A. Ramsey presiding. Interment will be in Lumberport Lions Cemetery.
