Obituary for Dr. Dilip S. Jani

Dr. Dilip S. Jani of Bridgeport, passed away peacefully on the morning of Wednesday, 11th of March, 2015. He was 84 years of age.

Dr. Jani was born on 4th of August 1930, in a Hindu family to parents Mr. Shankerlal and Mrs. Shantaben Jani, in Ahmedabad, the largest city in the western state of Gujarat, India.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mrs. Gillian Rae Jani, who he had met while working in the Wales, UK; and by his elder brother Dr. Bhalchandra Jani and younger sister Mrs. Ila Dave.

He was preceded in death by his parents Mr. Shankerlal and Mrs. Shantaben Jani, elder brother Mr. Jayendra Jani, and younger brothers Mr. Gautam Jani and Mr. Nitin Jani.

He spent his childhood years growing up with his family in Ahmedabad. After finishing high school, he went to Mumbai to pursue a degree in medicine. Subsequently he went to London, England, where he attained higher medical training and became a doctor of internal medicine.

As a medical doctor he continued his training and practice in the UK for a few years, a couple of years in Alberta, Canada, and finally in the US where he spent eight years in Boston and over thirty years in Bridgeport, where he made his final home. Of special note is his service at the Veteran Administration (VA) Medical Center in Clarksburg until 1996.

For many years after his retirement from the VA Medical Center, he continued to offer volunteer service at Health Access, West Virginia. Outside of work he enjoyed classical music, traveling and food.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2015. Dr. Jani had requested to be cremated.
