Obituary for Beulah Irene Leichter (Severn)

Beulah Irene Severn Leichter, 105, of Bridgeport, passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2015, in Bridgeport. She was born October 24, 1909, in St. Mary’s, a daughter of the late Henry J. Severn and Stella A. Noland Severn.

She was preceded by her husband, Charles D. “Buck” Leichter, Jr., on July 26, 1964.

She is survived by her nephew, Gene Dodd, Bridgeport; two great-nephews, Gene Taylor Dodd and Gary William Dodd and his wife Amy, all of Bridgeport; a great-niece, Janice Dodd Schultz and her husband Gary of Bridgeport; and several great-great-nieces and nephews and great-great-great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded by a brother, Ralph Severn; a sister, Lucy Dodd, her niece, Linda Sue Hubbs; and a great-nephew, Stephen Dodd.

Beulah graduated from Cameron High School and WV Business College. Buck’s work required them to often relocate their home, and Beulah worked at many banks during that time. She retired in 1996 from the business office of Clarksburg Publishing Company at the age of 87.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Clarksburg; the Woman’s Club, Clarksburg; and a 50-year member of Order of Eastern Star Chapter 11. She also volunteered for Girl Scouts in West Virginia and Kentucky; the American Heart Association; the American Cancer Society; and the Salvation Army. She had lived in seven states and Canada, and enjoyed traveling and had visited 38 states.

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday. Mrs. Leichter will lie in state at First United Methodist Church in Clarksburg from 10 – 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2015, where the service will be held at 11 a.m. with Reverend Rick Sale presiding. Family and friends will meet at 2 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon at Highland Cemetery, Cameron, for the interment.
