Obituary for Irma Jo Robey (Watkins)

Irma Jo Watkins Robey, 88, of Broadway Avenue, Bridgeport, passed away Saturday afternoon, September 5, 2015, at her residence with her family by her side. She was born in Tunnelton on March 20, 1927, the only child of the late Howard D. and Stella B. (Riley) Watkins.

On June 14, 1946 she married Hayward Ahva Robey, who preceded her in death on February 9, 2007. They were married for over 60 years.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah “Debbie” Horne and her husband Don of Bridgeport; two grandsons, Adam Douglas Horne of Bridgeport and Brian Scott Horne of Irvine, California.

Irma was a graduate of Tunnelton High School and Potomac State College, where she earned a two-year business degree. She helped her husband with several businesses including Bridgeport Taxi and service stations in both Bridgeport and Nutter Fort.

She was raised Methodist and was a very giving person who loved to share with those she knew and loved. She was an avid reader. She loved to garden and was known for her beautiful vegetable garden and flowers, especially cocks comb, whose seeds she shared with many people. She loved nature and enjoyed hunting and fishing with her husband and feeding and watching the birds.

Irma was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and one of her greatest joys was her grandsons, Adam and Brian, whom she loved spending time with.

Although Irma dearly loved flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions in her memory may be made to Peoples Hospice, 325 Medical Park Drive, Bridgeport, WV 26330.

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home 607 S. Virginia Ave., Bridgeport from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Tuesday, where services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 9, 2015, with Reverend Thomas P. Horne presiding. Interment will follow in Bridgeport Cemetery.
