Obituary for Freda Leona Ross (Wycoff)

Freda Leona Wyckoff Ross, 88, of Bridgeport passed away at her home in Bridgeport on Sunday, September 13, 2015. She was born in Bristol, WV (Near Salem) a daughter of the late Fred Wycoff and Dessie Nutter Wycoff.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years Everett Ross, Jr. whom she married on July 3, 1947. Mr. Ross passed away on December 31, 2000.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Janet M. and Mark R. Miller of Bridgeport: two grandsons, Dr. Kyle S. Miller and his wife Dr. Themy Ngo, of Dallas, TX, and Dr. Mark Daniel Miller and his wife Alexis Vaughan Miller of Lexington, KY; one sister, Grace Sommerville of Clarksburg; one sister-in-law, Donna Cassity of Chamblee, GA; and one very special friend Jim Windon of West Milford.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Steven Ross of Salem, WV who passed away in 2010.

Freda was a graduate of Bristol High School class of 1946. She was employed by the telephone company and later worked as a bookkeeper for her husband’s plumbing and heating business for over 30 years. She was a true West Virginia Woman through and through and loved being outdoors and experiencing the beauties of the state. She enjoyed taking rides in the mountains, square dancing with the Centennial Squares, and playing golf. She had a green thumb and took pride in raising her roses, lilies and variety of unique flowers. She was an excellent homemaker and also a great cook who loved to take care of her family who will miss her greatly.

Family and friends will be received at the Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 from 6-8 PM where funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in the Bridgeport Cemetery, Bridgeport, West Virginia.
