Obituary for Noel Kent Dawson

Noel Kent Dawson, 91, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2015 at his residence in Amherst, Virginia. Born in Johnstown, WV on Christmas day 1923, he was the son of the late Charley C. and Texie L. Dawson. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Blake, also of Johnstown. He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Janell Stout of Flemington, WV. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 69 years, Mrs. Christine Lewis Dawson, who has never known a day she did not know him. He is also survived by a daughter, Mrs. Cindy D. Loving (Michael) of Amherst, VA and 2 grandchildren, Scott Loving of Lewisburg, WV and Mrs. Cristy L. King (Jimmy) and their 4 children, Aurora, Abraham, Siera, and Canyon of Scott Depot, WV in addition to a host of nieces and nephews.

He served as a member of a B-17 bomber group in WWII under the Eighth Army Air Corp, and by parachuting to safety survived a mid-air collision that killed 8 fellow crewmen.

He had a long working career with the DMV in Washington D.C., eventually becoming Chief of Inspections for a number of years.

He was a devoted husband and wonderful father, grandfather, and great grandfather who will be greatly missed by all.

Family and friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport on Sunday, September 27, 2015 from 2-4 and 5-7 pm. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in the Johnstown United Methodist Church Cemetery, Johnstown.
