Obituary for Donald Lee Dobbins

Donald (Don) Lee Dobbins of Bridgeport died on April 4, 2016 at the West Virginia Veterans Nursing Facility in Clarksburg, WV, where he had been a resident since June 2015. He was born on December 20, 1927 the sixth of eleven children to Leroy and Lucy (Sandy) Dobbins who predeceased him.
He leaves behind his wife Ethel, whom he married in 1957; two daughters, Bridget and husband Robert (Rob) Fouse of Bridgeport and Sheila and husband Shaun Dempsey of Jane Lew; two granddaughters, Stacy Fouse of Parkersburg and Holly Allen and husband Brady of Bridgeport; one Great Grandson, Gage Beats, Parkersburg; with second Great Grandson, Allen due August 2016; surviving siblings Delores Westfall, Charles Dobbins & Ethel Patterson as well as numerous neices and nephews.
He was predeceased by siblings: Genevieve Serafini, Eugene Dobbins, Ruth Chestnut, Margaret Pence, Russell Dobbins, Bill Dobbins, Mary Kathrine Dobbins.
Don attended RW High School and left to join the military. He was a proud veteran of WWII, serving in the Navy from 1945 to 1947. He also served in the Korean Conflict as a wireman for the Marine Corps from 1948 to 1952. He served in the United Nations Summer-Fall Offensive from July 9 to November 27, 1951. In May of 2014 he was able to travel with other WWII and Korean veterans on the Honor Flight to Washington DC to see "their" memorials.
Mr. Dobbins retired from Pittsburgh Plate Glass in 1983 after having to transfer to Creighton PA and later to Crystal City, MO in order to acquire his retirement.
Pap as he was called by his granddaughters and Pap Pap by his great grandson will be greatly missed.
Family and friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport on Friday, April 8, 2016 from 2-8 pm and again on Saturday, April 9, 2016 from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm, where funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm with Pastor Tom Edgell presiding. Interment will be in Bridgeport Cemetery.
