Obituary for Ruth "Sis" Ross (Dalton)

Ruth “Sis” Ross, 82, of Bridgeport, died unexpectedly Saturday morning, April 16, 2016, in the United Hospital Center. She was born in Morgantown on October 17, 1933, one of fourteen children of the late Lawrence and Leona B. (Nicholson) Dalton.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Milton William Taylor, Sr., in 1977, and her second husband, Willard Ross, Sr., in 1981.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Emilio and her husband Joe; and her son, Milton Taylor, Jr. and his wife Shawna, all of Bridgeport; four grandchildren, Jack “J.D.” Martin, Jr., TX; Dr. Lela Dougherty and her husband Dr. Joe Dougherty, Gibsonia, PA; Alyse Lindsay and her husband Charles, Lost Creek; and Alec Taylor, Bridgeport; four great-grandchildren, Jacob and Raina Lindsay, and Matthew and Benjamin Dougherty; and two step-grandchildren, Christopher Emilio, Bridgeport, and Anthony Emilio, TX. Four brothers, Kenneth Dalton and his wife Sharon, Arthurdale; Denzil Dalton and his wife Geneva, Morgantown; Franklin Dalton, Morgantown; and Dale Dalton, FL; seven sisters, Loretta Watson and her husband Jim, OH; Dana Ross and her husband Willard, Jr., Rivesville; Nora Ball, GA; Betty Born and her husband Butch, Kingwood; Joyce Parker and her husband Jim, SC; Patsy Katterhenry and her husband John, GA; and Sharon Conner and her husband Dana, Morgantown; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter Norma Jean Taylor, who had severe cerebral palsy and “Sis” took care of at home for 21 years; and two brothers, Paul and Delbert Dalton.
“Sis” loved the Lord, was Pentecostal and attended church her whole life. She was a woman of strong faith who read her Bible and prayed daily over the pictures of her family. Although she couldn’t get out much, she loved talking with her sisters on the phone regularly. She loved her family, who were her world.

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, from 11 a.m – 1p.m. on Wednesday, April 20, 2016, where services will be held at 1 p.m. with Rev. Dr. C. Michael Hopkins presiding. Interment will follow in Bridgeport Cemetery.
