Obituary for Linda S. Kaufman (Steorts)

Linda Catherine Steorts Kaufman, 77, of Bridgeport, passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2016, at United Hospital Center. She was born in Flatwoods, West Virginia, on December 18, 1938, a daughter of the late George Ernest Steorts and Ethel Mullins Steorts.

She is survived by a daughter, Kelly A. Kaufman of Charleston; a son, Kevin S. Kaufman and his wife Wanda, of Mount Clare; two brothers, Rodney E. Steorts of Flatwoods and his wife Wanda, and George Donald Steorts of Fairmont and his wife Margaret; a sister, Rosa Sharon Steorts of Charleston; two step-grandsons, Bradley A. McPherson and his wife April and children Bethany, Sean, Joshua and Patrick, and Adam S. McPherson and his wife Lena and children Emily, Lucas, and Chelsea; her ex-husband, Argyle R. Kaufman of Bridgeport; and several nieces and nephews and their spouses and children.

In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her brother, William Walter Steorts and his wife Margaret, and by her half- brothers Spenser Cermit Steorts, James Ernest Steorts and Charley Burton Steorts.

Mrs. Kaufman was the former owner and broker of Kaufman Real Estate, Inc., in Bridgeport. She was active in the local and state Board of Realtors, and was instrumental in establishing the Harrison County multiple listing service. She was a cofounder of the Women Investing Now club, which at the time of her death had 17 active members, and the local Newcomers club.

Mrs Kaufman was an avid genealogist, having researched her family tree back as far as 26 generations. She was a voracious reader, and never stopped reading and learning. She enjoyed visiting with family and friends, and loved when the little ones came to visit with "Grandma Linda."


Family and friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue in Bridgeport on Tuesday, July 5 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 6 at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Jim Lang presiding. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery.
