Obituary for Jesse Eugene Corder

Jesse Eugene Corder, 89 of Laurel Park passed away August 11, 2016 in The Clarksburg Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born June 16, 1927 in Bristol, WV to the late Jesse Clarence and Lenora Patton Corder.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years of marriage, Sarah Frances Matthey Corder, whom he loved above all. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

He was a graduate of Bristol High School and worked at the Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company as a meat cutter until his retirement. He was a member of Meadow Valley United Methodist Church. Jesse enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing. He was a member of The National Bench Rest Shooters Association. He holds a world record in the Association. He was a traveler; he traveled out west, mainly to Wyoming to hunt many times and was very successful on his hunts.

Jesse was an avid storyteller. He entertained his great nieces and great nephews with hunting and fishing stories. He was also a jokester; he always had a joke to tell.
He helped those in need many times and many ways in a very quiet way, so as not to be proud. He always carried a bandanna handkerchief in his pocket.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Opal Virginia and Thelma Fay Corder, and brothers Oris "Dink' and wife Pearl Corder, James and wife Pearl Corder and Ted and wife Gladys Corder.

Family and friends may call at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Ave., Bridgeport, WV on Sunday August 14 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday August 15th at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Danny Fleming presiding. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
