Obituary for Charles Edward Holtz

Charles Edward  Holtz
Charles Edward Holtz, 90, of Clarksburg, passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2016, at his residence. He was born September 12, 1925, in Arnold’s Creek, a son of the late Cleoras and Lucy Jenkins Holtz.
He is survived by his loving wife, Isabel Frasqueri Holtz, whom he married in 1979. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Reed Holtz, in 1976.
Also surviving are a brother, James W. Holtz, Shelby, NC; and two sisters, Mary Ellen Sutton and her husband Vance, Wintersville, OH; and Sue Maditz and her husband Thomas, Clarksburg; his sister-in-law, Helen Holtz, Reynoldsville; Adriana; Frances and her husband Carlos; Antonia and her husband Daniel, Luisa and her husband Silverio; Brother-in-law, Peter Frasqueri and his wife Tomasa; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his son, Craig R. Holtz; a sister, Naomi Jean Phillips; a brother, Rev. William R. Holtz; and a sister-in-law, Ava Holtz.
Charles graduated from Doddridge County High School, Class of 1943. He proudly served his country in the US Navy and the 2nd and 5th Marine Divisions from 1943 – 1945. He was involved in the capture of Iwo Jima in the South Pacific. After the Japanese surrender, he was involved in the occupation of Japan and was also involved in the disarmament of South Kyuso, particularly destroying coastal defense guns and a large ammunition dump.
He retired from Harry Green Chevrolet after 27 years as Parts Manager. He was a member of the Clarksburg Baptist Church and volunteered at the Lords Food Pantry through the church.

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Sunday from 2 – 8 p.m., where services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 22, 2016, with Reverend David Hulme presiding. Interment will follow in WV National Cemetery, where Military Funeral Honors will be accorded by the Harrison County Honor Guard.
