Obituary for
Joseph Michael Hestick
Joe “Mike” Hestick, 59, passed away Friday, September 16, 2016, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. He was born in Fairmont on December 2, 1956, the son of the late Bernice Maxine Hestick and Joseph Michael Hestick. His sister Sharon also preceded him in death.
The absence of Joe’s presence leaves a hole in the hearts of many family and friends whose lives he touched, particularly his wife Beth Honecker Hestick.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his beloved daughter, Lindsay Hestick Stoudemire and son-in-law Chris; granddaughters, Halle and Hayden Koon and step-granddaughter Brooke, all of Prosperity, SC; son Liam Honecker, daughter-in-law Jennifer Robertson-Honecker and their children Helen and Ben of Morgantown.
His uncle, Quentin Gabriel; one aunt, Janie Stoker; and nephew Stephen Hargis of Jacksonville, FL, as well as many cousins also survive him.
Joe was a 1977 graduate of Shinnston High School where he played football and was a baseball all-star. He attended West Virginia University and worked at Consol, Robinson Run Mine for 32 years. He was a member of the Clarksburg Kiwanis Club.
Joe was a loving PapPap to his grandchildren, always ready to play the bad guy or lose at Candy Land. He was an avid outdoorsman who possessed a zest for adventure. He enjoyed cycling, climbing, hiking, camping, target shooting and any activity that gave him the opportunity to embrace fresh air and enjoy nature’s many wonders.
Joe had recently developed a passion for golf and eagerly took on the challenges the game presented. He loved dogs. He tolerated the cat.
Many benefitted from his generous spirit through his volunteer work at United Hospital Center and the Shinnston Fire Department. His unforgettable smile radiated warmth and kindness, yet he was a rock to lean on. Joe was a mountain of a man – inside and out.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Joe’s memory to the Joe Hestick Memorial Art Scholarship Fund, Lincoln High School, 100 Jerry Toth Drive, Shinnston, WV 26431; or the Humane Society of Harrison County, P.O. Box 4397, Clarksburg, WV 26302.
