Obituary for Fred Hansford, Jr.

Fred Hansford, Jr., 86, of Bridgeport, went to be with Jesus on Tuesday morning, November 8, 2016, in the United Hospital Center. He was born in Parsons on March 14, 1930, a son of the late Fred C. Hansford and Ethel (Morrison) Hansford Pigott, and the step-son of Jim Pigott.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Martha L. (Robison) Hansford, whom he married July 25, 1953.
Also surviving are his son, Gary Hansford and his wife Louella, Buckhannon; and his daughter, Susan Rollins and her husband Greg, Belington; a granddaughter, Jene′a Mechele McGowan and her husband Ben, Hedgesville; and a grandson, Neil Gregory Rollins and his wife Amy, Belington; 4 great-grandsons, Luke Benjamin McGowan; Jacob Neil McGowan; Levi Rockwell McGowan, and Bradley Charles Rollins; two step-great-grandsons, Brandon and Brian Messenger; Three brothers, Robert Pigott and his wife Doris, Delaware, OH; Randall Pigott and his wife Polly, Warren, OH; and Thomas Pigott and his wife Kathy, Sothington, OH; and several nieces and nephews complete his family.
In addition to his parents and step-father, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Jane Burr.
Fred graduated from Parsons High School and earned an Associates Degree in Accounting from the Clarksburg Business College. He worked as an accountant for the Clarksburg Water Board, retiring after 30 years of service. He had also served for four years in the National Guard. He was a long-time member of Johnson Avenue United Methodist Church.
An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed staying at their cabin on Point Mountain, Valley Head, Randolph County; camping, backpacking, hunting, fishing, and gardening. He and Martha traveled, enjoyed three trips to Hawaii and also visiting Alaska.

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, from 4 – 8 p.m. on Friday, where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 12, 2016, with Reverend Clifford West presiding. Interment will follow in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
