Obituary for Saundra "Sonnie" Norman

Saundra “Sonnie” Norman, 74, of Mt. Clare, passed away Sunday morning, November 13, 2016, in the Clarksburg Nursing and Rehab Center. She was born in Clarksburg on May 7, 1942, a daughter of the late Howard Kay and Reba Mae Dodd Lewis.
She is survived by her husband Bernard Norman, whom she married on November 26, 1960.
Also surviving are three children, Debra Kay Day, East Taunton, MA; Kelly Norman Jones and her husband Steve, Chambersburg, PA; and Mark Lynn Norman and his wife Laurie, Bridgewater, MA; seven grandchildren, Erin Day, Kelsi Day, Joseph Griffin, Bryan Griffin, Zachary Jones, Andy Norman, and Dan Norman; two great-grandchildren, Jaiden Ramos and Lily Griffin; a sister, Becky Lake and her husband Lanny of Clarksburg, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Terry Lewis, Jack Lewis, and an infant brother Gerald Lewis.
Sonnie was a graduate of R-W High School, and retired in 2001 from the Harrison County Board of Education as a Teacher’s Aide after 25 years of service. She was instrumental in starting the Key Club at Liberty High School and Builders Club at Bridgeport Middle School. She was very active with the WV National Guard Family Support Group, and was an active member of the Quiet Dell United Methodist Church.
She loved to read and loved her vacation time at the beach. Above all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandkids who knew her affectionately as “Granny.”

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, from 2 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday, where services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 16, 2016, with Reverend Brian L. Boley presiding. Interment will follow in Norman Cemetery, Mt. Clare.
