Obituary for Genevieve Marie Cunningham (Hikel)

Genevieve Marie Hikel Cunningham, 88, of Nutter Fort, passed away Monday evening, November 14, 2016, in Meadowview Manor. She was born in Clarksburg on June 19, 1928, a daughter of the late George Karl Hikel and Ida Freda (Habeb) Hikel.
On November 3, 1963, she married Ernest C. Cunningham, who preceded her in death on July 21, 2004.
She is survived by her brother, Frederick J. Hikel, of Essex, MD and Winter Haven, FL; several cousins, her good friend Donald “Duck” Webster and his daughter Danielle Johnson and her children; and many other close friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Janet Hikel.
Genevieve was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School, Class of 1947. She had worked as a glass cleaner at Eagle Convex Glass, and was an active volunteer with the Bi-County Nutritional Center. She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, and was selected as an Irish Legend in 2015. She was also a member of the Elks and Eagles clubs. She loved to go out to eat, and her favorite restaurant was the FOP.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Harrison County Catholic Schools, 127 E. Pike Street, Clarksburg, WV 26301; the Bi-County Nutritional Center, 416 Ohio Avenue, Nutter Fort, WV 26301; or Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 8092 Third Street, Stonewood, WV 26301.
Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, from 2 – 8 p.m. on Thursday, where the Vigil Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 18, 2016, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady Perpetual Help with Father Kent Durig presiding. Interment will follow in Lumberport Lions Cemetery.
