Obituary for Garnet Lorraine Shanks (Barker)

Garnet Lorraine Shanks, 92, of Bridgeport, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, November 12, 2016, in Clarksburg Nursing and Rehab Center. She was born October 18, 1924, in Brown, one of 13 children of the late Wesley Dewey and Ella Muriel (Dennison) Barker.
In 1945 she married Clifton Shanks, who preceded her in death in 1990.
She is survived by a brother, Ralph “Bud” Barker of Fairmont; two sisters Sue Ann Lucante and her husband Jim of Stonewood; and Nancy Lucante of Stonewood; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by seven brothers, Jack, Russell, Dewey Lee, Richard, Bill, Fred and Burl Barker; and two sisters, Mary Eloise Barker and Kathleen LeMasters.
She was an active member of Evangel Baptist Church. She was an avid mall walker where she would meet many of her friends to walk in the mall.
Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, from 4 – 8 p.m. on Friday, where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Jeff Ramsey presiding. Interment will follow in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
