Obituary for Barbara Jean Richards (Capilla)

Barbara Jean Capilla Richards, 73, of Bridgeport, passed away Friday afternoon, December 30, 2016, at her residence. She was born in Galloway on April 5, 1943, a daughter of the late Frank and Jean (Smallridge) Capilla.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Jeffrey L. Richards, whom she married April 11, 1964.
Also surviving are her daughter, Shari Smiers and her husband David, Fairmont; her son, Scott Richards and his wife Cindy, Brewster, MA; four grandchildren, Shana Carpenter and her companion Andrew Grabb, Fairmont; Whitney Lowry and her husband Marshall, Fairmont; Allyson Richards and Jeffrey Richards, both of Brewster, MA; two great-grandchildren, Maddox Grabb and Mia Lowry; two sisters, Sharon Davie, Taylor, MI, and Jane Simons, Bridgeport; a brother, Robert Capilla, of Lakeland FL; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Richard R. Capilla.
Barbara was a graduate of Philippi High School, Class of 1961, and she then graduated from WV Business College, which is where she met her husband Jeff. She retired from the FBI on December 31, 2007, after 14 years of service. She attended Bridgeport United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Barbara’s memory can be made to Bridgeport United Methodist Church Permanent Fund, 251 Worthington Drive, Bridgeport, WV 26330.
Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, from 3 – 7 p.m. on Friday, January 6, 2017, where services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday evening with Reverend Dr. Ken Ramsey presiding.
