Obituary for Betty Angeline Gawthrop (Yocco)

Betty Y. Gawthrop, 89, of Bridgeport, passed away on Sunday morning, November 13, 2016, at the United Hospital Center in Bridgeport, WV. She was born on April 23, 1927, in Philippi, WV, a daughter of the late Sullivan Yocco and Mary Patsey Yocco Sims.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Asa D. Gawthrop, who passed away on July 18, 1980.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen Miller of Sierra Vista, AZ, and her son, Asa R. Gawthrop of Bridgeport; one sister, Pat Costley of Manteca, CA, and one brother, Sullivan “Jim” Yocco of New Concord, OH; six nieces and nephews: Mary Galvan of Morgan Hill, CA, Jana Kolsbun and her husband John of Jacksonville, OR, Dan Yocco of Marietta, OH, Dennis Yocco of Canton, OH, Sharon Coffman and her husband John of Belpre, OH, and John Proudfoot of Clever, MO.
She is also survived by her friend and neighbor, Brenda Barnes.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by one sister, Elizabeth “Marie” Ashman; two nephews, Jackie Ashman and Timothy Proudfoot.
She was a graduate of Philippi High School and a graduate of the West Virginia Business College and worked as a bookkeeper for the family business, Bridgeport TV. She enjoyed reading, camping, and family gatherings. She also enjoyed spending time with her close friends at their weekly luncheons.
A graveside memorial service will be held at the Bridgeport Cemetery on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at 1:00 pm. Memorial donations can be made to the Humane Society of Harrison County or the Clarksburg Mission.
