Obituary for Jess Willard Powell Jr.

Jess W. Powell, Jr., 72, of Brushy Fork Road, Bridgeport, passed away unexpectedly at home on Tuesday, October 31, 2017. He was welcomed to Heaven by his heavenly father and earthly son and namesake, Jess W. Powell, III, who was tragically killed in an auto accident on Friday, January 13th, 2006. He was born November 28, 1944, on Old Bridgeport Hill, the son of the late Jess W. Powell, Sr., and Mabel Freeman Powell.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Martha Jane “Patsy” Powell, beloved son Michael J. Powell and his wife Brittany of Parkersburg; a sister, Leah Jo Oler of Timmonium, MD, and daughter-in-law Melissa Powell of Bridgeport; four beloved grandchildren, Samantha (Broc) Gregg, Jess W. Powell, IV, and his wife Taylor, Kristin Jane (John) Fox, and Katie Lynn Powell; five great-grandchildren, Jess W. Powell, V, Addysyn Grace Powell, Gabriel Michael Powell, Kayan Gregg and Kylar Gregg all of Clarksburg; and two special step-great-grandchildren, Tucker and Briar Rossi of Bridgeport. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Jeanie Dean, Margaret Freeman, and Iris Matheny.
He was a charter member of the Harrison County Emergency Squad. He was employed as Amtower Auto’s first employee in the 1970’s and worked at the Clarksburg and Bridgeport stores for 27 ½ years. He was the current president of the Brushy Fork Seniors Citizens and also served as vice-president on the Board of Directors of the Barbour County Senior Citizens. A true renaissance man his expertise and advice in all things will be a loss to family and friends.
Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Friday from 2 – 8 p.m., where services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 4, 2017, with Pastor Robert Marino presiding. Interment will follow in Trinity Cemetery.
