Obituary for Roberta Bartlett

Roberta Lee Bartlett, 97, of Bridgeport, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 21, at United Hospital Center, after suffering a stroke. She was the wife of the late Allison Lee Bartlett, who passed away in 1985 after 36 years of marriage.

She was born June 29, 1920, at home in Oxford, WV, to the late Harve Blaine Lowther and Jessie Prunty Lowther. She was the youngest of five children and was preceded in death by her brother, Godfrey Blaine (Bob) Lowther, and her sisters, Golda Mae Vance, Virginia Dare Batson, and Helen Kathleen (Kay) Cooper.

She is survived by her son, Roger Allison Bartlett and daughter-in-law Linda; grandchildren, Roger A. (Andy) Bartlett and wife Susan; Laura B. Hsu and husband Michael; and Stephanie L. Pugh and husband Jason; along with six great-grandchildren: Katie, Megan, Nathan, and Daniel Pugh; and Henry and Emily Hsu.

Roberta graduated from Salem High School and was employed by Monongahela Power and Lowndes Bank, where she worked for a number of years before becoming a stay-at-home mom. She was a member of the Bridgeport United Methodist Church and related Women’s Circle and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Roberta was a wonderful cook and gardener who enjoyed being outside. She was also an avid card player and board gamer who always made time for games with her grandchildren.


Memorial donations may be made to Bridgeport United Methodist Church in Roberta’s name, 251 Worthington Drive, Bridgeport, WV 26330


Family and friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport on Friday, November 24, 2017 from 6-8 pm and again on Saturday, November 25, 2017 from 10-12 noon, where funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon with Reverend Dale C. Waters presiding. Interment will be in Bridgeport Cemetery, Bridgeport.
