Obituary for Michael Ann Gainer

Michael Ann Gainer, 73, of Bridgeport passed away on Friday, December 1, 2017 at Bridgeport Health Care Center, following a fifteen month battle with Acute Leukemia. She was born on December 28, 1943 in Clarksburg, a daughter of the late L. Wilfred Raikes and Edna Craig Raikes.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Hugh Gainer, whom she married on March 14, 1965.
In addition she is also survived by her son Scott Gainer and his wife Tawnie of Bridgeport; and the loves of her life, her grandsons, Micah and Matthew Gainer; her sister, Sharon Herrick of Clarksburg; her niece Pattie Herrick Dorfner and her husband Gregg; her great nephew Eric and her nephew George Michael Herrick and her great nieces and Emily and Elizabeth Herrick; and her special loving cousins, Nancy Kopp of Clarksburg and Billy Don and Bernie Anderson of Myrtle Beach; and many other cousins and relatives complete her family.
In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by, her brother-in-law George Herrick.
Michael Ann retired from the phone company after 34 years of service, where she worked in many areas of the company, primarily as an operator. She was past member of the CWA, served as a job steward for local 2011, member of the telephone pioneers of America, with her husband was a member of the Harrison County Retired Teachers. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Clarksburg, serving on many committees and was a church Deacon, Elder, and was chosen as the Presby woman of the year.
Michael Ann was a proud graduate of Roosevelt Wilson high School class of 1961. She enjoyed working on the reunion committees. Michael Ann attended West Liberty State College.
A special thank you to her doctors and the staff at United Hospital Center on the 6th and 7th floor as well as the staff at the Bridgeport Healthcare Center. The family would also like thank all of her Doctors, especially Dr. Shah at the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center. A special thank you to her favorite caregivers, Tammy, Mary and Heather, the best caregivers ever. Michael Ann was so appreciative of their help, love and care.
Family and friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport on Sunday, December 3, 2017 from 2-8 pm. Funeral Services will be conducted on Monday, December 4, 2017 at 11:00 am with Reverend John Koerner and assisted by Reverend Doctor Ken Ramsey. Interment will follow in the Bridgeport Cemetery, Bridgeport.
