Charles "Charlie" Brannon, 94, of Clarksburg passed away at home on December 29, 2017 with his wife of 74 years, Kathleen, at his side. Charles was born on September 30, 1923, in Shinnston, WV, the son of Leland S. Brannon and Lillian Blanche Yates.

He was the beloved father of Timothy Robert Brannon and his wife Linda and Pamela Kay Brannon Critchfield and her husband Chuck, all of Clarksburg. Charles was “Papaw” to five grandchildren: Timothy Scott Brannon, Aimee Danielle Williams (Christopher), Jeremy Ryan Brannon, Leslie Kathleen “Katie” Critchfield Mehle (Jesse), Charles Nathaniel “Nate” Critchfield, and seven great grandchildren: Charles Samuel Brannon (Hope), Timothy Andrew Brannon, Trey Michael Chibirko, Jonah Christopher Williams, Kolby Taylor Williams, Jackson Charles Mehle and Kathleen Marie Mehle.

Charles was preceded in death by his brother Robert Lee Brannon and a sister Doris Jeanne Riley.

After graduating from Shinnston High School in 1942, Charles served as a corpsman in the United States Navy until 1945.

Charles worked as a carpenter for Riley Construction Company for 27 years, 1949 to 1976. In 1976 Charles began work as maintenance and construction manager for LaRosa Fuel. As part of his work for Jim LaRosa, he finished the interiors of the shops at Eastpointe, made repairs to the Rose Garden Theater and built houses for the LaRosa’s. Over a lifetime, Charles built some 20 houses on evenings and weekends. Some of the houses were for family members and others he built to sell. After retirement in 1989, Charles enjoyed spending time in the kitchen preparing family meals. He also enjoyed making hot dog chili for RCB concession stands for seven years. From 1993 to 1997 Charles left retirement to spend summers as a grounds keeper for the Pete Dye Golf Course. In 1998 he wrote his autobiography titled, "The First Seventy-five Years."

A member of the First Methodist Church, Charles was a hardworking husband and father who cherished his family.

Memorial services will be at on Saturday January 6, 2017 at 1:00 pm at First United Methodist Church, 117 N 2nd St, Clarksburg, WV 26301 with Reverend Harry Jenkins presiding. Military Honors will be accorded following the service at the church. A visitation will follow from 2-4 pm in the fellowship hall following the memorial service and military honors.
