Obituary for Saundra Sue Parent (McClain)

Saundra Sue Parent, 78, of Anmoore, passed away Thursday morning, February 1, 2018, in River Oaks Nursing Home. She was born in Buckhannon on October 9, 1939, a daughter of the late William Hartzel McClain and Marjorie Frances Woods McClain.

She is survived by her children, Tim Elliott, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Staci Williams, Baltimore, MD and Jonathan Parent, Florida; a granddaughter, Bella Parent, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; a great-grandson, Keon Hall, Baltimore, MD; two nieces, Jeanne Caussin, Birmingham, AL; and Teri Young, Marianna, FL; a nephew, Dan Caussin, Montezuma, NC; and two great-nieces and three great-nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Caussin; a brother, Billy McClain; a granddaughter, Alexis Lewis and a grandson, Matthew Lewis; and a nephew, Robert Smith.

Sue spent her formative years in Buckhannon, Pittsburgh, and Clarksburg. As a teen and young adult, she worked at the family business, Home Industry Bakery. She took great pride in Clarksburg where she worked, got married and later returned after retirement. She was always proud when people would regale her of memories they had of her father‘s bakery - in the Goff Building and in Adamston. She often said that working in the bakery created the insatiable sweet tooth that ruled her and her sister’s lives. She was a graduate of Bridgeport High School, and had worked as a teller at Bank of America, retiring in 2004.

She cared deeply for everyone she knew, whether you were family or friend. She was a generous, loving and supportive woman. In her final years, she enjoyed the company of her significant other Dorsey Cole and his thoughtful family.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. on Monday, February 5, 2018, where a celebration of Sue's life will be held at 7 p.m. with Reverend Jim Lang presiding.
