Obituary for James Burl "Jim" Myers

James Burl “Jim” Myers, 64, of Lost Creek, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday evening, April 24, 2018, in United Hospital Center. He was born in Clarksburg on October 15, 1953, a son of the late Vinson Burl and Virginia Lee (Bunch) Myers.
He is survived by his wife, Claudia (Butcher) Myers, whom he married June 14, 1975.
Also surviving are two daughters, Holly Myers and her fiance' Leonardo Ramos Rodriquez, Clarksburg; and Tech SGT Amanda Velasco and her husband Tech SGT Chris Velasco, both serving in the US Air Force, Mountain Home, Idaho; two grandchildren, Tyler Myers, whom Jim and Claudia raised, and Maiah Velasco. A brother, John Raymond Myers, three sisters, Sharon Petry, Brenda Collins, and Sheila Gain and her husband Tim; all of Clarksburg; and several nieces and nephews complete his family. He is also survived by Claudia’s brothers and sisters, Carolyn and Blair Turner, Weston; Ronnie and Charlene Butcher, Jane Lew; Markle and Penny Butcher, Buckhannon; Don and Sharon Naccarato and Gabriel and Melinda Naccarato, all of Pittsburgh, PA; and Alice Trotto, Colorado.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister at birth, Tammy Jo Rice, a nephew, Jason Gain, and a sister-in-law, Beverly.
Jim served in the US Army in combat during the Vietnam War. He was formerly a meatcutter for Swift and Company and a real estate agent for Realty America. He was the former owner and operator of Jim’s Auto Sales and WV Battery, and was currently a salesman for Royal Brass and Hose for the last 21 years.
Jim was an accomplished woodworker and sold several of his pieces throughout the area. He enjoyed hunting and grilling out. His children and grandchildren were his life. He was a family man with a heart of gold and thought of others before himself. He was looked up to as a father-figure by many of his nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Friday from 2 – 8 p.m., where services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2018, with Reverend Patty “Sissy” Hebb presiding. Interment will follow in Coplin Cemetery.
