Obituary for John "Al" Quagliotti

John Aldo "Al" Quagliotti, Sr., 87, of Stout Street, Bridgeport, passed away Thursday, December 25 at United Hospital Center, Clarksburg. He was born June 5, 1921, in Masontown, WV, the only son of the late Louie and Louisa Beata Quagliotti. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ann Zekan Quagliotti, whom he married at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Brownton in 1949. Also surviving are four children, Al Quagliotti, Jr., and his wife Jackie, Pittsburgh; Greg Quagliotti and his wife Marilyn, Fairfax Station, VA; Mark Quagliotti, Chesapeake, VA; and Monica Nordstrand and her husband Joe, Houston, TX; three grandchildren, Melissa Gervinski and her husband Jason, Altoona, PA; and Leif and Cyrus Nordstrand, Houston, TX; great grandson Benjamin Gervinski, Altoona, PA; a sister, Catherine Calvi, Morgantown; and numerous nieces and nephews. Al graduated University High School, Morgantown in 1940 and the Coyne Electrical School, Chicago. He served his country in the US Army as a Tech Sergeant with the 357th Searchlight Battalion in the European Theatre during World War II, 1942 -- 1946 and the Korean War, 1950 – 1952. His wartime service awards and decorations include the Bronze Star and the French Medal of Appreciation. He was a mining electrician and mechanic, 1946 – 1982, in and around Barbour County, ending his career working for The Badger Coal Company. He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, Bridgeport. He served on the Board of Directors of Broaddus Hospital, was a member of the UMWA, a Life Member of the VFW, and a member of the Lions Club. Al was a dedicated family man who set an example of hard work, faith, and enjoyment of life. In his retirement years he enjoyed traveling far and wide to spend time with family and friends. He was a life-long sports enthusiast earning track and field awards in his youth, coaching his sons' baseball teams, and was a devoted Mountaineer fan. The family requests that in lieu of flowers tributes in his honor be made to the All Saints Catholic Church Building Fund. Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Sunday, December 28 from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. The Vigil Service will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, December 28 at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, December 29 at 11:00 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church with Reverend Father Harry Cramer as Celebrant. Entombment will be in Holy Cross Mausoleum, and Military Funeral Honors will be accorded. Burnside Funeral Home, Bridgeport
