Obituary for Samuel Anthony Oliverio

Shinnston...Samuel A Oliverio, 90, of Shinnston passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at the Veteran's Administration Nursing Home in Clarksburg, after an extended illness. He was born on February 7, 1924 in Viropa, the son of the late Anthony Oliverio and Teresia Samoria Oliverio.

He attended Shinnston High School and served in the US Navy and is a veteran of WWII. He had been self-employed and then was in the coal industry for 30 years.

Sam is survived by three daughters and one son: Mrs. Nancy Oliverio Hamley and husband Tony of Aurora, OH; Mrs. Mary K. Oliverio Maxwell and husband George of Bridgeport, WV; Barbara Oliverio, Raleigh, NC; Samuel A. Oliverio II and wife Jeannie of Bridgeport, WV.
He has eight grandchildren: Denise S. Griffett, Harrisburg, PA; Ryan D. Moore, Pembroke Pines Fl; Patrick J. Maxwell, Wheeling WV; Justin Oliverio, Atlanta, GA; Nicole L. Maxwell, San Diego, CA; Sam Oliverio III, Bridgeport, WV; Alicia Oliverio, Bridgeport, WV; and Calin B. Oliverio of Raleigh, NC. There are three great-grandchildren surviving: Skylar Moore, Blake Moore, and Gage A. Oliverio.

Sam was preceded in death by his wife, Mary K. Fazalare Oliverio on Nov. 7, 1978; and two sisters, Josephine Selario and Victoria Fratto. Mary Fazalare, a sister, of Shinnston survives.

Sam was a member of St. Anne's Parish and more recently attended All Saints Parish of Bridgeport.

Private Catholic Burial Rites were held for the family with Father Hilarion Cann as Celebrant. Interment was held in Shinnston Masonic Cemetery.
