Obituary for Ernie Shahan

Ernie  Shahan
Ernest “Ernie” Shahan, 88, of Green Valley, passed away Sunday morning, May 28, 2017, in Grafton City Hospital. He was born in Rosemont on August 16, 1928, one of twelve children of the late Floyd and Lummie (Tenney) Shahan.
He never married, and is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, including his niece Sandy Bray and her husband Charlie, who cared for him and his needs. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Arley, Harley, Eugene, Elizia, Ercel, Floyd and Sterling; and his sisters Viola Shahan, Venola Marteney, Vilda Riffle, and Ercie McCloy.
Ernie served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked on various farms in Green Valley and mowed grass in Bridgeport for several households. He enjoyed country music and attended a lot of country shows in his younger years and enjoyed listening to country music on the radio in his later years. Throughout his life, he enjoyed visiting family, friends and neighbors. He also was an advocate for the elderly and would do anything he could to help them.

Ernie requested that no flowers be sent. Contributions can be made in his memory to Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center, Patient Services, 1 Medical Center Drive, Clarksburg, WV 26301.
Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, from 4 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday, where services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 31, 2017, with Reverend Thomas P. Horne presiding. Interment will follow in Flemington IOOF Cemetery.
