Wilma L. Pope Alonso, 91, of North View, Clarksburg, passed away Monday afternoon, October 23, 2017, in Bridgeport Health Care Center surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Clarksburg on January 29, 1926, a daughter of the late James H. Pope and Hattie Elizabeth Smallwood Pope.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Alonso in 1995. They had started dating in the 7th grade and were married for over 48 years.
She is survived by 5 children, J.P. Alonso and his wife Mary Ann of Arboville, Janie Jenkins and her husband Ronald of North View, Tad Alonso of Fairmont, Greg Alonso and his wife Montica of Marshville, Kim Floyd and her husband Brian of Clarksburg; 13 grandchildren, Christopher Alonso, Robert Alonso, Heath Jenkins, Tristan Jenkins, Drake Jenkins, Jessica Duling, Jenny Alonso, Jordan Alonso, Kolby Alonso, Skylar Heater, Chase Alonso, Brett Floyd, Tanner Floyd; 8 great-grandchildren and one on the way. Wilma is also survived by her sister Louetta McCobb and her husband Dick of Lima, Ohio and by her sister-in-law Mary Pope of Houston, Texas.
In addition to her husband, Wilma was preceded in death by her sisters Winnie Minehart and Thelma Alonso and by her brother Raymond Pope.
She had previously worked at McNichol Pottery and Pettrey Shoe Store. Wilma was a proud graduate of Victory High School Class of 1944. She attended her high school class monthly luncheons and was very involved with the reunions. She loved her home and corner in North View and the highlight of her life was having all of her children and grandchildren over for Sunday dinners.
The family sends a thank you to her very special caregivers Bertie Cummings and Linda Wiseman who took such loving and special care of her. They also wish to thank Amedisys Hospice and their nurses, especially Anna.

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Friday from 4 – 8, where services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 28, 2017, with Reverend Elizabeth Baker presiding. Interment will follow in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
