Obituary for Wanda Marie Long

Wanda M. Long, 90, of Bridgeport, passed away Saturday afternoon, February 17, 2018, in United Hospital Center. She was born in Clarksburg on August 14, 1927, a daughter of the late Carl L. and Marit Pearl (Sims) Harrison.
She was preceded in death by her husband, V. Gene Long, on October 8, 1984.
She is survived by three children, David J. Long and his wife Maxine, Clarksburg; Rebecca A. Davis and her husband Jerome, Bridgeport; and Carla G. Arco and her husband John, Clarksburg; seven grandchildren, Melissa L. Ashley; Christopher D. Long and his wife Jennifer; Diane M. McCarthy and her husband Michael; Karin L. Davies and her husband Richard; Kevin J. Davis; James Carl Arco; and Maria Rose Arco. Her great-grandchildren, Amanda Ashley, Matthew Long, Harrison Long, Jameson McCarthy, Evan McCarthy, Justin Davies, Isaiah Singleton, and Ashirah Singleton; and a brother, William Harrison, Chesapeake, VA, complete her family.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by a grandson, John Salvatore Arco.
Wanda was a graduate of R-W High School. She started with Hills Department Store when it opened, retiring in 1989 as Head of the Children’s Department.
She was a member of Vincent Memorial United Methodist Church, the Bridgeport CEOs, Senior Citizens, and was a volunteer at Shephard’s Corner. She liked to sew, basket weave, read, and do search-a-word and jigsaw puzzles.

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, from 2 – 8 p.m. on Wednesday, where services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 22, 2018, with Reverend Bonnie Starkey presiding. Interment will follow in Friendship Cemetery, Jane Lew.
