Obituary for David Carl Carpenter

David Carl Carpenter, 79, of Clarksburg, passed away on Sunday Morning, February 25, 2018 at United Hospital Center. He was born on August 5, 1938 in Peora, WV a son of the late Charles Carl Carpenter and Iva Vincent Carpenter.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty Lou Zirkle Carpenter, whom he married on December 20, 1959.
He is also survived by one son, Leslie D. Carpenter of Clarksburg; one sister, Mary Rose Carpenter of Enterprise; one aunt, Betty Vincent of Enterprise; two first cousins, Carla Vincent White of Texas and Sue Vincent Suppa of Texas; nieces and nephews, Stephen Carpenter of AZ, Scott Carpenter of TX, Jeff Carpenter of AZ and Christa Reed of KY.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Carpenter, Jr. and Donald Carpenter; two sisters, Betty Irene Carpenter and Ina Jean Carpenter.
David was a 1956 graduate of Shinnston High School and attended Fairmont College and Salem College for two years. David worked for over 46 years for the James & Law Company. He held several positions over the years including, Secretary/Treasurer, President and a member of the Board of Directors. David was also a lifetime member of the Clarksburg Lions Club. He won the Leonard Jarret Award and the Melvin Jones Fellow Award . He greatly enjoyed working on service projects such as selling brooms and helping the Lions serve food at the Clarksburg Mission. He also enjoyed collecting antiques and refinishing antiques and going to auctions. David bowled with several leagues in Clarksburg for over 30 years. In addition, he was also a member of the Peora United Methodist Church.
Family and friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 from 2-8 pm. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Harry Holbert presiding. Interment will follow in Shinnston Memorial Cemetery, Shinnston
