Obituary for Roberta Joan Brown (Allen)

Roberta Joan Brown, 78, of Flemington, passed away Sunday evening, March 4, 2018, in Beulahland Assisted Living in Grafton. She was born in Harrison County on August 11, 1939, a daughter of the late Ivan C. and Gertrude Shear Allen.

On September 13, 1958, she married Martin L. Brown, who preceded her in death on February 6, 2002.

She is survived by three daughters, Dr. Virginia Brown Drislane and her husband William of Dunstable, Massachusetts, Diana L. Brown of New Harmony, Indiana, and Anna Margaret Brown of Indian Mount, Tennessee; one son, David L. Brown of Flemington; nine grandchildren, Oliver and Connor Odde, Alexander and Vincent Cote, and Rory, Tobias and Daisy Drislane; George and Elsie Brown; one step-granddaughter, Holliann Cote; and a half-brother, Chester Martin and his wife Louise, Downington, PA.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Boggs.

Joan was a graduate of Victory High School. She was previously a teacher at Head Start in Webster; had worked at Hess Oil in Elkins, and was the owner and operator of Brown’s Beverages with her husband Martin.

She loved quilting and was a member of the Star Friendship Quilters, and attended Flemington United Methodist Church and was an active member of United Methodist Women.

A gathering of friends will be held at Flemington United Methodist Church, 19 Berry Run Road, Flemington, on Monday, March 12, 2018, 5 – 7 p.m., where services will be held at 7 p.m. with Pastor Lois Sandy presiding. Joan will be interred at WV National Cemetery next to her husband Martin.
