Raymond M. Tackett, 81, died peacefully at home on March 20, 2018 in Bridgeport. He was born on August 10, 1936 in Hollandale, MS and son of the late John Newton Tackett and Mary Tatum Tackett.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lucille Tackett.
He is also survived by his son, Duke Tackett of Bridgeport and a daughter, Karen Propst and her husband Dwayne of Franklin; three grandsons, Corey Propst, Jeremiah Propst and Zachary Propst, all of Franklin.
He was the youngest of four brothers and was preceded in death by Bert Tackett, Joseph J.N. Tackett and Harvey Tackett. Raymond had many beloved nephews and nieces in the Tackett Family
He attended Hollandale High School and Greenville High School in MS before enlisting in the MS National Guard and then in the United States Marine Corps. Upon his Honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, Raymond met and married Lucille and moved to Charleston, WV where he worked for Ray C. Call, Inc. and the Mountaineer Euclid, Inc. In 1965 Raymond moved to Bridgeport with an expansion of Mountaineer Euclid. After retiring in 1984, he worked for the Department of Corrections in Virginia and afterward Raymond worked at Walmart in Clarksburg. Raymond also owned and operated apartments in Bridgeport and Clarksburg.
Raymond obtained an associate’s degree in criminal justice from Fairmont State College and worked as a part-time police officer for Bridgeport and Washington County Sheriff’s Department in Greenville, MS. He was a member of the Bridgeport Volunteer Fire Department and the Bridgeport Jaycees. Raymond coached minor league and little league baseball in Bridgeport. He loved coaching his players and he would talk about his teams right until his death. Raymond was a loving father who did everything and anything he could for his children.
He was a very outgoing and enjoyed talking with people, especially about being from Mississippi when he was selling Christmas trees for the Jaycees, setting up the Fire Department for Fireman’s Fair or at Bridgeport Indians football Games. Raymond was truly one of a kind and will be remembered fondly by his family and friends.

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, from 3 – 6 p.m. on Friday, where services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2018, with Pastor Jay Linaberg presiding. Interment will follow in Bridgeport Cemetery.
