Obituary for Monica Delores Skinner

Monica Delores Skinner, 91, of Bridgeport passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of September 12, 2018 at Bridgeport Health Care Center where she had been a resident for the past year. She was the daughter of the late William J Barboa and Gladyz Stutler Barbao and her stepmother Mary C. Barbao. She was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, John J. Skinner, and two sons, JJ (John J ) and Michael Skinner. They are rejoicing together once again.
Monica is survived by two daughters and their families; Jan Frenzel and husband Jim and Patty Carey and husband Scott. She was a proud grandmother and great-grandmother to 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. JR and Abbey Frenzel , Jenny and Shaun Fleming, James and Brittany Frenzel, Sean Carey, Kayla Carey, Jason Carey and his fiancé Kelly Markley, Justin and Brittany Carey, John Michael and Sheree Skinner. Great Grandchildren Zane and Molly Frenzel, Hailee and Torin Fleming, Candace, Cruz and Camri Skinner and Amelia Markley.
Our mother was blessed to have been cared for by many angels in her later years. She grew to love those who cared for her and they became family. We shall forever be thankful to the staff at Bridgeport Health Care and her special girls that always went above and beyond their job to make sure she was happy and cared for. Amedysis Hospice have been wonderful, especially our “Sarah “angels who watched and cared for her as their own mother. Also to those angels that cared for her while she was still able to be at her home and continued to visit her often when she moved to the care facility, Barb Elliot, Nancy Laulis, and Ruth Lanham.
Monica’s greatest joy was found in her kitchen. She loved nothing more than to have a table surrounded by family and friends enjoying her cooking. We take comfort in knowing that she is once again able to cook and bake and perhaps even can peppers.
Family and friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport on Friday, September 14, from 3-7 pm. Funeral services will be private and held by the family.
