Obituary for Grace A Freeman

Grace A. Freeman, 89, formerly of Clarksburg, WV went home to be with the LORD on Thursday, September 20, 2018 in Charleston, WV. She was surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 31, 1929 in Clarksburg, a daughter of the late John Westley Freeman and Lelia Gray Freeman.
Grace was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by two special nieces, Odessia Richards (who was like a daughter to her) of Charleston, WV and Debora Davis of Rosemont, WV. Grace was blessed to make her home for the last two years with Odessia, her husband Darrell, niece Lelia Richards, great, great nephew Ty'Meek Battle, and great, great niece (and namesake) Nalaya Grace Battle.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Charles Freeman, Warren G. Freeman, Westley Freeman and Wilbert Freeman; five sisters, Bertha Younger, Elizabeth King, Emma Blakely, Florence Freeman and Susie L. Freeman. She was preceded in death by a special Sister-in-law Mrs. Charles (Roberta) Freeman. Grace was also preceded in death by her fiancé Thomas Woods and niece Nadine Peyton Keller.
She leaves to mourn 5 nieces and 3 nephews. Dolores Mann Lucas, Toledo OH; Charlotte (George) Silas, Boston MA; Sheila Freeman, Dayton OH; Linda Freeman Hudson, Dayton, OH; Kim Freeman Dean, Austin TX; Ivan Freeman, Dayton OH; Carl (Jean) Younger, Boston, MA, and Orrin Freeman, Pittsburgh, PA. And a host of great nieces and nephews. She also leaves to mourn special friends, Minister Margaret Robinson, Beverly Lanham, Helen Snyder, Pam Moats, Jean Williams, Elva Wolfe, Iva Rinker, Sandy Shumaker, Berlyn Bryan, Shannon Craig, Shirley Wolfe & children Dianna, Cindy and Jerry.
She was a graduate of Kelly Miller High School. Grace was employed by the Gore Hotel, as an elevator operator, in Clarksburg, WV for 20 years. She worked at St. Mary's Hospital until they merged with Union Protestant Hospital and formed United Hospital Center for a total of 23 years, and was honored as employee of the month 3 times. She retired in 1991. She was a Life-Long member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Clarksburg, where she sang in the Willing Workers Senior Choir, served in the Daughters of Zion Women's Ministry, and was Co-Chair of the Annual Women's Day in 1986. In recent years, she was affiliated with Knottsville United Methodist Church, Knottsville (Grafton) WV (while she was a resident of the Beulahland Assistant Living Nursing Home) and the Central Community Tabernacle Church of Charleston, WV.

Family and friends will be received at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 315 E. B. Saunders Way (formerly Water St.), Clarksburg, WV on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 from 11-12 pm, where funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon under the direction of Pastor Dr. Rahsaan A. Armand. He will be assisted by Pastor Carolyn Walker of Central Community Tabernacle Church of Charleston, WV. Interment will follow at the Flemington IOOF cemetery, Flemington, WV.
