Obituary for Dortha "Betty" Hamrick

Dortha “Betty” Lee Hamrick, 86, of Good Hope, entered into God’s loving hands on Wednesday, December 12, 2018, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 11. 1932, in Parcoal, Webster County, WV and was adopted by the late James and Edna (Dodrill) Phares, who she considered her true parents.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Wetzel Norr Hamrick, who she considered the best husband in the world. He passed away on November 29, 2014.
Surviving are three daughters, Barbara Lee Pierce of Salem, Mary Lee Garrett and her husband Ronnie of Good Hope, and Diana Lavoun Lambert and her husband James Wesley of Duck Creek; eight grandchildren, Sabrina Kesling and her husband Chris, Samantha Baddley and her husband Scott, Billy Jo Garrett and wife Sarah, Crystal Linger and her husband Stormy, Sandra Nichols, Joseph Lambert and wife Lyndsie, Andrea Hall and her husband Ben, Olivia Crawford and her husband Tyler; seventeen great grandchildren, Justin Pierce, CJ Kesling, Jeremy, Mackenzie, and Jacob Baddley, Donovon Garrett, Austin, Jake and Allie Nichols, Miguel, Leigha, Zoe, and Andrew Linger, Eden Lambert, Caden, Colton, Caleb and Corben Hall, Jemma Crawford and soon to be great grandson Carter James Crawford; one brother, James Corbett Phares, II of Webster Springs; her niece, Deborah Martin and her husband Dan; three nephews, James Corbett Phares, III and his wife Jenny, and Don Phares and his wife Gail; Jim Phares and his wife Jane and sister Kathy. She also had brothers-in-law and sisters- in- law that were very dear to her heart and many nieces and nephews complete her family.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by he beloved six-year-old daughter, Lela Noreen Hamrick; two great granddaughters, Jacobs twin Lea Baddley and Joslyn Lavoun Hall, who were both born into heaven; four brothers, Harley Phares and his wife Ella, Junior Lee, Jessie Lee and Lloyd Lee McCartney; one sister, Mary Lee McCartney.
She was protestant by faith and she was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church and attended West Milford United Methodist Church. She also attended several other churches when the doors were open. She was devoted and loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, granny and great granny. She was an Avon representative and worked in the Food for Families in Lost Creek and Nutter Fort, she worked for six years at United Hospital Center in housekeeping. She was the president of the Good Hope and West Milford Senior Citizens and also the president of the West Milford Homemakers. She taught children’s classes and Sunday School at Calvary United Methodist Church, and singing for Shut ins with her family. She enjoyed her flowers, feeding and watching her birds, especially the cardinal, the bird of angels, which was her favorite. Waiting in heaven is her dog Cody, her cats, Big Tom, Kit Kat and Terra, and leaving behind are her five cats, Daisy, Bubba, Grey, Pinkie and Blackie.

Family and friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Monday, December 17, 2018 from 10 am to 1:00 pm, where funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm with Pastor Ben Hall and Pastor Jim Murphy presiding. Interment will follow in Good Hope Masonic Cemetery.
