Obituary for Karen Leslie Alexander

Karen Leslie Alexander, 57, of Bridgeport, was welcomed by her Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 3, 2019, in Morgantown. She was born in Clarksburg on November 17, 1961, a daughter of the late John Thomas Alexander and Lois M. True Alexander.

She is survived by three sisters, Kimberly Lynne Alexander-Kinkelaar, of Bridgeport, Kathryn Lea Plummer Alexander of Fairmont and Katrina Alexander Llaneza and her husband Mark, The Woodlands, TX; three nieces, Marissa Dawn Kinkelaar of Bridgeport; Dr. Megan Kinkelaar-Beam and her husband Dr. Caleb Beam of Morgantown; and Mary Goff and her husband Brandon of Bridgeport; four nephews, John Korey Lawson and his wife Sarah of Morgantown, Brandon Page Lawson of Fairmont, Luke Alexander Llaneza and Parker John Llaneza both of TX; two great-nephews, Boaz Andrew Beam and Baker Philip Goff; and one great-niece, Emilia Ray Lawson of Morgantown; and her precious dog Lucy.

Sergeant Karen Alexander distinguished herself by meritorious service while in the United States Air Force. Sergeant Alexander’s dedication to duty and attention to detail were instrumental in securing the success of countless missions for her country. Her accomplishments culminated during several deployments and resulted in excellent and outstanding ratings during her time of service. She was honorably discharged from the Armed Forces of the United States and maintained active duty until February 1, 1995.

One of her most prestigious awards from the Air Force was the John Levitow award, the highest award presented at Airman Leadership School to the student who demonstrated the most outstanding leadership and scholastic qualities.

Karen was a graduate of Bridgeport High School class of 1980. She then earned both an Associate’s Degree in Theology from Appalachian Bible College in 1998, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Organizational Management from Mt. State University in 2003.

Although she has a long list of life achievements, particularly from the military, they pale in comparison to what her friends have to say about her and the way she lived her life through Christ. Knowing that God called her to serve a true Christian life, Karen led a life full of love. A sinner saved by grace, Karen loved mankind, animals, and all of the beauty God created.

Family and friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Thursday, March 7, 2019 from 2-8 pm. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 8, 2019, at 10 a.m. with Dr. C. Michael Hopkins presiding. Interment will be in Bridgeport Cemetery with Military Honors.
