Obituary for Fred A. Fazalare

Fred A. Fazalare, 86, of Erie/Hepzibah Community, passed away unexpectedly Friday evening, May 3, 2019, at his residence. He was born August 18, 1932, in Hepzibah, a son of the late Joseph and Nancy Jean Garland Fazalare.

On February 17, 1968, he married Sandra Carol (Brosius) Fazalare, who passed away March 25, 2019.

He is survived by two sons, Fred Fazalare and his wife Sandra; and Gary Fazalare and his wife Amie, all of Shinnston; his daughter, Lisa Fazalare, Fairmont; his grandchildren, Freddy Fazalare and Jessica, Mannington; Bethany (Fazalare) King and her husband Burnell, Charleston, SC; and Brandon and Cory Fazalare, of Shinnston; and 9 great-grandchildren. His brothers-in-law, James Brosius and his wife Carol, Goshen, Indiana; David Brosius and his wife Margaret, Erie; and John Brosius and his wife Nancy Brosius, Bridgeport; and several nieces and nephews complete his family.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by two brothers, James F. “Pylo” Fazalare and Richard Fazalare; and two sisters, Mary Oliverio and Rose Marie VanGilder.

Fred graduated from Victory High School, Class of 1950, and served in the US Navy during the Korean War. He was a coal miner with Consolidation Coal Company, retiring in 1992, and was a proud member of the UMWA. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting and fishing, and took up the game of golf at age 69. He also enjoyed gardening.

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, from 2 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday, where services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 8, 2019, with Pastor Eric Miker presiding. Interment will follow in Shinnston Memorial Cemetery with Military Funeral Honors accorded.
