Obituary for Elbert Amon Woofter

Elbert A. Woofter, 89, of the Brushy Fork community, Bridgeport, passed away at home on Tuesday, July 16, 2019. He was born on January 19, 1930 in Troy, WV a son of the late Ola Amon Woofter and Emily “Gay” Rexroad Woofter.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Pauline Ada Burrows, whom he married on November 16, 1953.
He is also survived by two daughters Connie Malone and her husband Dean of Bridgeport and Darlene Nutter of Brushy Fork; two grandchildren, Sharon Werdebaugh and her husband Scott of Bridgeport and Josephus “Joe” Malone and his wife Hilary of Charleston; three great grandchildren, Mariah Boyce, Wesley Boyce and Domonick Werdebaugh; along with several nieces and nephews complete his family.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by five brothers and sisters, Edna Lamb, Elsie Ireland, Elnora Huddleston, Charles Woofter and Roy Woofter. Elbert was the last surviving member of his siblings. He was also preceded in death by his son-in-law, Troy Nutter, and one grandson, TJ Werdebaugh.
Elbert was a veteran of the United States Army proudly serving during the Korean War from 1951-1953. He was employed as a Butcher for 48 years with Young and Stout, retiring in 1995. After retiring, he and Pauline catered for several years and enjoyed helping others to celebrate their special occasions. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and was a very strong man of God and that his faith in his Lord and Savior was felt by everyone close to him. He served in many capacities there for 51 years, including teaching Sunday School classes as well as being a Layman.
He enjoyed farming, raising cattle, gardening, and watching the hay fields grow. Most importantly he enjoyed visiting with family and friends.

Family and friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport on Sunday July 21, 2019 from 2-8 pm. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, July 22, 2019 at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in Trinity Cemetery.
