Obituary for Darrell Alonzo Bush

Darrell Alonzo Bush, 97, of Bridgeport, passed away Friday morning, July 19, 2019, with his loving family by his side. He was born December 14, 1921, at Grass Run, Gilmer County, a son of the late Tip and Mima (Heckert) Bush.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Mary Wilda (Somerville) Bush, whom he has missed dearly since her passing on March 3, 2009.

He is survived by four sons, Michael Bush and his wife Norenne; Ronnie Bush and his wife Beverly; Richard Bush and his companion Robin; and Jeff “JT” Bush and his wife Joi; and his daughter, Sharlene Muscar and her husband Fred. Ten grandchildren, Shelley DeBerry and her husband Ryan; Angelina Brewer and her husband Shawn; Mario Muscar and his wife Jennifer; Tip Bush; Megan Luchuck and her husband John; Paige, Sarah, Jordyn, Jake, and Jaci Bush; 5 great-grandchildren, Lindsey and Madison DeBerry; Sebastian Brewer; Flannery and Nico Muscar; a sister, Delores “Boots” Tomaino of Midland, NC; and many nieces and nephews complete his family.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by six sisters, Mary Lyle Gnegy, Helen Blackshire; Bess Wright; Isabell McLain; Betty Lee Feldman; and Joan Shedden; and two brothers, Leo Bush and Lynwood Bush.

Darrell served during World War II in the US Army, where he was a recipient of the Purple Heart and Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars. Darrell was retired from Consolidated Natural Gas with 35 years of service as a driller. He was a member of Bridgeport American Legion and the Oil and Gas Association.

He loved growing a garden and hunted until the age of 95. He was Methodist.

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, from 3 – 8 pm on Monday, where services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 23, 2019, with Reverend Thomas P. Horne presiding. Interment will follow in Bridgeport Cemetery where Military Funeral Honors will be accorded.
