Obituary for Samuel Anthony Belcastro

Samuel Anthony Belcastro, 91, of Bridgeport passed away on Sunday morning, July 28, 2019 at his home with his family and friend/caregiver John Price. He was born on November 29, 1927 in Meadowbrook a son of the late John (Jack) B. Belcastro and Anna Marie Leonzante Belcastro.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Rosa Ventura Belcastro who passed away on September 21, 1999.
He is survived by three sons, John J. Belcastro and his wife Connie of Bridgeport, Robert S. Belcastro of Bridgeport and Joseph M. Belcastro and his wife Sarah of Mechanicsville, VA; sister-in-law, Clara Belcastro of Bridgeport; grandchildren, John Belcastro II of Clarksburg, Justin Belcastro and his wife Jaclyn of Bridgeport, Rose Belcastro Faulhaber and her husband Jeff of Strongsville, OH, Kayla Belcastro Magro and her husband Marc of Morgantown, Anthony Belcastro of Fairmont, Samuel Belcastro of Bridgeport, and Jack Belcastro of Mechanicsville, VA, and Josie Belcastro of Mechanicsville, VA; great grandchildren, Maleia Belcastro, Mya Belcastro, Julian Belcastro, Reese Magro, Reagan Magro, Julia Faulhaber and Drew Faulhaber. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son James A. Belcastro; daughter-in-law, Joyce Belcastro; sister, Teresa Belcastro Ventura; brother-in-law, John Ventura; brother, Patsy Belcastro; sister-in-law Emma Belcastro; brother Joseph Belcastro and nephew Randall Belcastro; great granddaughter, Jordyn Belcastro; brothers and sisters -in-law, Anna and John Abruzzino, Mary and John Shields, Kathryn and George Cassell, Antoinette and John Brunetti and Lucille and John Caputo, and a special companion Doris Dawkins.

Sam was a 1945 graduate of Shinnston High School and proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1950-1952, where he was awarded the Purple Heart and 3 Bronze Stars. He and his family owned and operated Rollins Market for 35 years. He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and lifetime VFW member. He was an avid bowler and loved the New York Yankees and the West Virginia Mountaineers. After retirement, his true passion other than his family was spending time on the family farm producing and raising registered Aberdeen Angus cattle. Then, when his wife became ill he gave up the cattle business for a less time consuming hay business. He retired from farming just short of his 88th birthday.

Family and friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport on Sunday, August 4, 2019 from 2-8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 5 at 10:00 am at All Saints Catholic Church, 317 E. Main Street, Bridgeport. Entombment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery.
