Obituary for C. David Morris

C. David Morris, 93, of Bridgeport, passed away Wednesday evening, September 11, 2019, in the Clarksburg Nursing & Rehab Center. He was born in Wick, Tyler County, on October 11, 1925, a son of the late Clarence David Morris, Sr. and Vista Erma (Alkire) Morris.
He is survived by his wife Patricia Ann (Pitts) Morris, whom he married February 10, 1950.
Also surviving are three daughters, Deborah S. Mason and her husband Stephen ; Pamela A. Etchison and her husband Patrick ; and Michele L. Long and her husband Kenneth; 6 grandchildren, Jennifer L. Pigott and her husband Christopher; Corey D. Poynter; Amanda C. Dorr and her husband Carl; Anna D. Long; Haley D. Etchison; and Claire L. Etchison; 5 great-grandchildren, Hope Wilson, Timber Wilson; Maiah Blankenship; Julian Dorr and Jamison Dorr; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Jason Scott Poynter and a brother, Virgil S. Morris.
His schooling consists of graduate of Sistersville High School; Trade School, machinist; Mountain State Business College; West Virginia University, extension courses; Dale Carnegie How to Win Friends and Influence People Course; Dale Carnegie, Sales Course; Dunn and Bradstreet Management School; American Society of Executive Officers school; ICS Correspondence School, Engineering and drafting; ICS Correspondence school, Sign and Painting and lettering; Consolidated Natural Gas Inc. Management Courses.
He served in the US Army during World War II in Northern France. He was an author who wrote 7 books, one of which was published, and he wrote over 700 short stories. He was a member of the Central Christian Church and Bridgeport United Methodist Church.
He was employed thirty-nine years by the Natural Gas Industry; Hope Natural Gas Co, Inc, Civil Engineering Dept and Marketing Department; Consolidated Natural Gas Transmission Corp, Environmental Specialist.
President, Bridgeport Rotary Club; Member Paul Harris Fellow, Rotary Club International; Executive Officer of two Home Builder Trade Associations; President, Parent Teachers Association; Dale Carnegie, District Governor Alumni Association; Church school teacher, lay leader, deacon, elder and church school Superintendent; Advisor County Vocational education committee; National Association of Home Builders, Publicity and Information committee, Dale Carnegie Class, How to Win Friends and Influence People, Graduate Assistant; U.S. Corp of Engineers, Machinist’ US Army, Tec 5, the 106th Infantry Division; President, West Virginia Unit, Wally Byam Caravan Club International; Chairman, Governor of West Virginia, Clean Streams project for Harrison County; Motivational speaker.
Special thanks to Mike Martin and Jack Spatafore of Bridgeport Physical Therapy for many years of wonderful care; Interim Healthcare - Tammy, Samantha, Alice. Clarksburg Nursing and Rehab Center that carried the family through the last week of his life. Special friends Bobby Swiger and Taylor Jackson.

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, where services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday with Rev. Dale Waters and Pastor Jeff Hanlin presiding. Interment will follow in Bridgeport Cemetery with Military Funeral Honors accorded by Harrison County Honor Guard and WV National Guard Honor Guard.
