Obituary for Albert Lawrence Simon

Albert Lawrence Simon, 43, of Huntington, departed to his Heavenly Home on Thursday, September 26, 2019. He was born in Fairmont on January 19, 1976, the only child of Lima Jo (Jones) Simon, who survives in Rosemont, and the late Stephen F. Simon.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his uncle, Robert E. Jones, New Philadelphia, Ohio; Aunt and Uncle Mary Frances and Larry Morris of Kingsport, TN; and Aunt Susan Jane Simon, the Netherlands. He also leaves behind several cousins.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Stephen and Fern Simon; and his maternal grandparents, Rev. Robert and Lila Jones; and his uncle, James R. Simon.

Albert graduated from Grafton High School in 1994, where he was involved with the show choir, the Grafton Entertainers. He then attended Marshall University, where he graduated in 2001. He also held an internship with NASA in Washington, DC, in the summers of 1995 & 1996.

He was employed by Marshall University in the College of Liberal Arts. He transferred to COEDPD (College of Education and Professional Development,) where he found his life’s work, helping young students become teachers. He also managed the LRC (Learning Resource Center) on campus, a job he enjoyed greatly.

He was devoted to his home church, Bailey Memorial United Methodist Church, Rosemont, where he was pianist and organist. He was leader of Vacation Bible School at the church for 12 consecutive years.

He was a loving son, nephew, and best friend to many.

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Friday from 6 – 8 p.m. Albert will lie in state at Bailey Memorial United Methodist Church from 11 a.m. – 12 noon on Saturday, October 5, 2019, where services will be held at 12 noon with Rev. William McDowell presiding. Interment will follow in I.O.O.F Cemetery, Rosemont.
