Obituary for Russell Hanby

William “Russell” Hanby, 95, of Bridgeport, and formerly of Lost Creek, passed away peacefully Monday morning, October 14, 2019, to join his wife in Heaven. Mae Palmer Hanby passed on July 29, 2012, and they had been married 66 years.

Russell was born in the Hanby’s Corner residence of his late parents, Evan and Margaret Hanby in Delaware, where he resided until he retired in 1984 from Sun Oil Company. He and Mae then relocated to Lost Creek, and he has lived at Maplewood Senior Living in Bridgeport for the last 11 years.

Russell was an avid member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, where he served as Grand Master of the Delaware Grand Lodge. He enlisted and served in the Army Air Corp during World War II.

He is survived by a son, Hon. Wayne R. Hanby and his wife Veronica of Newark, DE; two daughters, Deborah H. Boulden of Myrtle Beach, SC; and Darlene H. Copeland and her husband Steve of Colorado; 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mildred Dawson, Delaware.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Gary William Hanby, on July 27, 2019; and four brothers, Joseph L., who died in infancy, Thomas, Clifford, and Kenneth Hanby.

At his request, Russell was cremated and services will be held for the family at a later date.
