Obituary for John A. Dennison

John A. Dennison, 86, of Quiet Dell, passed away on Monday, October 28, 2019 at United Hospital Center, Bridgeport. He was born on January 18, 1933 in Bristol, a son of the late John W. “Pete” Dennison and Virginia Lanham Dennison.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Elwanda Meadows Dennison whom he married on October 24, 1966.
He is also survived by their daughter, Crystal Trupia and her husband Jeremy of Manassas, VA; two grandsons, Niccolo Trupia and Christopher Trupia both of Manassas, VA; one brother, Jack Dennison of Salem and one nephew, Brian Dennison, along with several great nieces and nephews.
John was a 1951 graduate of Bristol High School and a 20-year Veteran of the United States Navy. Chief Dennison enlisted in the Navy through the Clarksburg station in June of 1952. He was a veteran of the Korean War, the Taiwan evacuation, the Cyprus crisis and two tours in Vietnam. Among his many decorations and awards are the Secretary of the Navy Commendation, Good Conduct, Korean, United Nations, China, National Defense and Vietnamese Service Medals. Upon his return from service he was employed at the United States Postal service for 20 years beginning in 1974 until he retired in 1994. He enjoyed hunting bear and deer, fishing and especially spending time at his camp at Bemis. He was a lifetime member of the VFW.

Family and friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport on Friday, November 1, 2019 from 3-7 pm. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at 10:00 am with Reverend Nathan Weaver presiding. Interment will follow at Marshville Cemetery with Military Honors.
